A Nossa Corrida Pela Vida

Frequently Asked Questions

Full transparency about our situation.

Why not wait for the public health system (SUS)?
The waiting list exceeds 6 months. The tumor is aggressive and the doctor was clear: we have a maximum window of 4 weeks to operate before the risk of metastasis drastically increases. We don't have time to wait.
Will Gi regain the vision in her right eye?
Unfortunately, no. The vision already lost cannot be recovered. The goal of Brachytherapy is to "dry out" the tumor, save her life, and preserve the eyeball, keeping her facial structure intact and avoiding the removal of the eye.
What happens if the goal is not reached in time?
We are doing everything possible to hit the goal within 4 weeks. If the amount raised is partial, we will use it as a down payment and try to renegotiate with the hospital or seek emergency loans. Every penny donated will be used exclusively for her treatment.
What exactly is Ocular Brachytherapy?
It consists of a surgery where a small radioactive plaque is fixed to the outside of the eye, exactly over the tumor area. This plaque emits focused and controlled radiation to destroy the cancer cells without affecting the rest of the body.
How will the R$ 70,000.00 be used?
The amount is entirely destined for surgery costs at the Albert Einstein Hospital. This includes the specialized medical team, the fabrication and rental of the radiation plaque, operating room costs, anesthesia, and necessary hospitalization days.
How can I be sure the campaign is real?
We believe transparency is the foundation of everything. In the "Transparency" section of this page, we have made the medical exams and budgets available for download. You can verify all documents at any time.
How long does the radiation plaque stay in the eye?
The radioactive plaque is fixed temporarily. For a 6mm tumor, it will stay for a few days (usually between 2 to 4 days), depending on the exact radiation dose required. After this period, a second minor surgery is done just to remove it.
What if the campaign raises more than the goal?
If a true miracle happens, any excess amount will be strictly used for Gi's post-operative care (expensive medications, special eye drops, medical returns, and transport). If any amount still remains, we will donate it entirely to another cancer patient's campaign.
I cannot donate money right now. How else can I help?
Your sharing is just as valuable! Click the WhatsApp button at the bottom of the page and send the link to your contacts and post on your social networks. The further Gi's story reaches, the faster we will hit the goal.
How will I know about updates on the surgery and Gi's health?
We created the "Updates Wall" right here on the site. We will always post news, the evolution of the collection, the surgery scheduling, and, with faith in God, the good news of her recovery.
Is the surgery very dangerous or painful?
The surgery is done under general anesthesia, so Gi won't feel pain during the procedure. The post-operative period may bring discomfort and swelling, which will be controlled with medication. The biggest risk right now is not doing the surgery in time.
How is the post-surgical recovery?
Recovery requires a lot of rest and strict medical monitoring. After removing the plaque, Gi will need to use specific eye drops, avoid physical exertion, and have frequent imaging exams to confirm the tumor has "dried up" completely.
Can I donate through other means, like a traditional bank transfer?
To concentrate the amounts and have real-time control of the goal, we are centralizing donations through PIX (for Brazil) or the Stripe button (International) for secure credit card transactions.
